Course Equipment
Webcams
Our instructors and students have had success in using Logitech webcams in our online courses. Logitech webcams range in price from $20-100. Google products result for Logitech webcams.
We have also had success with the Eyeball webcam (Mac-compatible). Google products result for the Eyeball 2.0
There are, of course, several other brands that produce reliable webcams (Apple, Creative, HP, Microsoft). We recommend Logitech and Eyeball webcams because of our previous experience with them.
Built-in laptop webcams will also work in Elluminate.
Headphones/Headset & Microphone
Our courses are hosted in Elluminate web-conferencing software. Elluminate uses Voice over IP (VoIP) for the audio component, which requires a computer/webcam microphone and headphones. Headphones are required to prevent the feedback that occurs when participants use their computer speakers for audio. These headphones can be the earbuds from your mp3 player or any other style of headphone (see below).

Most webcams have built-in microphones (all of the Logitech webcams listed in the Google link above have built-in microphones). If your webcam or computer does not have a built in microphone, then a headset will be required. Logitech also makes an inexpensive USB headset that previous students have had success using in Elluminate. Google products results for Logitech USB headsets.
NOTE: If you will be joining class from a location that could have background noise a headset is recommended. Camera and built-in computer microphones often pick up more background noise than a headset microphone.
Testing
You can test your computer audio in the Elluminate Configuration Room. The link to this room is found on the Elluminate first-time user system set-up page.
