The 2009 STEMES Program is being held in Vanderbilt's Featheringill Hall, Room 129

Covering Content, Assessment, and Pedagogy

Day One:

During day one groups will create a course outline and begin to create one instructional unit. Activity/working group times are incorporated into each section

  • 8:00 - 9:50 Welcome and Begin with Backwards Design
  • 9:50 - 10:10 Break
  • 10:10 - 12:00 Technology in Course Design and Assessment, Assessment
  • 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
  • 1:00 - 2:45 Intro to "How People Learn" and Examples of Its Use in Legacy Cycle
  • 2:45 - 3:00 Break
  • 3:00 - 5:00 Teaching Strategies for a Legacy Cycle and more "How People Learn"
  • 5:00 - 6:00 Break
  • 6:00 - 8:30 Dinner

 

Day Two

During day two groups will advance the work on the instructional unit. Activity/working group times are held at the end of the when various strategies have been presented.

  • 8:15 - 9:00 Reflections on assigned readings
  • 9:00 - 10:00 Strategies in Instructional Design/Active Learning 
  • 10:00 - 10:20 Break
  • 10:20 - 12:00 Strategies: Use of Technology, Using Scoring Rubrics, and Fair use of Existing Materials
  • 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
  • 1:00 - 2:00 Clickers
  • 2:00 - 2:45 Existing Materials and HPL, EM & Legacy Cycle
  • 2:45 - 3:00 Break
  • 3:00 - 5:00 Activity Time: Work on Instructional Unit

 

Day Three

During day three groups will complete their unit and present it to the larger group.

  • 8:15 - 9:20 Reflections on Assigned Readings
  • 9:20 - 10:00 Panel of experts: Pedagogical Styles
  • 10:00 - 10:20 Break
  • 10:20 - 10:50 Panel of Experts: Pedagogy Q&A
  • 10:50 - 12:00 Groups work on Instructional Piece
  • 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
  • 1:00 - 2:30 Groups Teach Instructional Pieces
  • 2:30 - 2:50 Break
